Respect
Respect is about acknowledging that individuals have the right to their own views, actions and development as long as they do not unduly constrain the rights of others.

Respect has three qualities – empathy, valuing of self and valuing of others. We need respect in the workplace otherwise you may find your staff are in conflict and the organisation has low morale.

Harassment, Conflict & Mediation
Everyone is entitled to respect, so ensure your organisation has effective methods of dealing with harassment and conflict. Do you have policies that are fully implemented throughout the organisation? Do managers and staff know what harassment is and how to deal with it? In the event of difficulties does your organisation have access to mediation?

Equality and Diversity
Equal opportunities has developed into Diversity, and it acknowledges that people are different. Organisations are developing Diversity Policies but often struggle with the implementation process, and how the message can be communicated effectively throughout the organisation.

This will involve everyone being treated fairly throughout their employment, and being given equal opportunities to contribute to the organisation and their own development. It also involves challenging current thinking and behaviour of employees and managers, and ensuring that procedures are being utilised fairly.
